Poll: Best Movie Awards Spoofs

People, if you’re not already hip to this lesson, let us give you a tip: cool guys don’t look at explosions. It’s just science, really.

Really, what it really is, is a callback to one of the best movie spoofs in MTV Movie Awards history, when Andy Samberg and Will Ferrell teamed up with J.J. Abrams (what?) at the 2009 show to stress to movie lovers the most vital lesson one can take away from the proceedings movie genre.

But that’s not the first (or last) time the Movie Awards have poked fun at our favorite flicks. The boys of *NSYNC teamed up to save the world from “Armageddon” levels of doom in 1999, and later, in 2003, Justin Timberlake was back again, ready and reloaded to take on “The Matrix.” As recently as 2011, Jason Sudeikis and Emma Stone went as far as to apply a live piano show to the art of movie-spoofing, as seen above.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. There are plenty of other movie spoofs to reckon back on fondly, but which one is the most amusing of them all? We’re leaving that choice up to you in the Movie Awards poll below!

» Return to polling headquarters!

Polls close Friday, May 29 at noon, with results to be announced in the lead-up to the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Vote now and vote often!

Head over to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for your favorite flicks now! The 21st annual MTV Movie Awards air live Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET.

Lady Gaga Under Fire After ‘PopStarsDontEat’ Comment

What was clearly intended as a jokey tweet lamenting the rigorous diet and exercise routine she is currently undertaking to prepare for her 110-date Born This Way Ball has place Lady Gaga in the crosshairs of some mad fans and eating-disorder organizations. On Tuesday, the pop star tweeted, “Just killed back to back spin classes. Eating a salad dreaming of a cheeseburger #PopSingersDontEat #IWasBornThisWay.” Some fans thought the tweet wasn’t just so keeping with the pop star’s “You’re perfect the way you are” message and that her choice of the “#PopStarsDontEat” hashtag could be misinterpreted as encouraging eating disorders because she posits herself as a role model to her fans.

The National Eating Disorder Association even weighed in, hitting its own Chirrup account to write, “Huh? This is the same person who recently implored girls to stop dieting?”

MTV Buzzworthy has an Open Letter To Lady Gaga While it seems clear that Gaga was joking ? who hasn’t dove into a salad wishing it was something else? ? the comment does appear out of character for the star, who has spoken freely about her own struggles with an eating disorder as a teen. Using that particular hashtag might have been a poor choice, but it’s safe to say Lady Gaga wasn’t knowingly making light of eating disorders ? and, otherwise, wasn’t she mostly just encouraging exercise and healthy eating? Gaga tweets often about all sort of less-than-healthful habits, from drinking (“after 12 margaritas my phone was confiscated”) to, well, other things (“princess xena of xanaxland has lil secrets in her inbox”). Why she is life scrutinized for making an observation about something we already know ? that celebrities engage in intense appropriateness regimens to meet the unrealistic expectations placed on their appearance ? is kind of a mystery. But, you know, really appropriate and necessary reason for outrage, all. Sound off on Gaga’s #PopSingersDontEat tweet in the comments below!

Lady Gaga, ‘Smash’ Creators Win GLAAD Media Awards

Lady Gaga was one of the huge winners on Saturday night at the 23rd annual GLAAD Media Awards, taking home the prize for Outstanding Music Artist for her Born This Way? album. The show honors various branches of the media that represent the LGBT community.

The show was hosted by “Glee” stars Cory Monteith and Naya Rivera and included guest a skin condition from Dakota Fanning, “Jersey Shore” nice guy Vinny Guadagnino,? talk show host Wendy Williams, “Top Chef” star Padma Lakshmi and Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir.

Broadway veteran Bernadette Peters and TV star John Stamos presented the Vito Russo Award to Craig Zadan and Neil Meron for their work on the NBC musical series “Smash.” The Russo award is presented annually to openly LGBT media professionals who have made a difference in promoting equality. In accepting the award, Meron said the pair, who were also behind the Oscar-winning movie musical “Chicago” and “Hairspray,” have spent a long time tiresome to “fight, persuade and manipulate” Hollywood into including LGB characters in their work.

Also on hand was openly gay 17-year-ancient high school student Katy Butler, who received a unique award from Weinstein Company co-chairman Harvey Weinstein for her work in launching a Exchange.org campaign last month to argue for a PG-13 rating for the upcoming documentary, “Bully.”

Other winners included: “Dancing With the Stars” (Outstanding Reality Program), for including the tale line of transgender dancer Chaz Bono last season, the HBO film “Cinema Verite” (Outstanding TV Movie or Mini Series), a film focused on the life of a black lesbian teenager, “Pariah” (Outstanding Film — Limited Relief), “Battle Against Bullying” from ABC World News with Diane Sawyer (Outstanding TV Journalism Segment) and the “Batwoman” comic book by J.H. Five Reasons To Play The ‘Game Of Thrones’ RPG

When you play the “Game of Thrones” RPG, you win or you die. Literally. But somewhere along the way our classification of “winning” seems to have deviated from the one used by the those over at Cyanide Studio.

The game’s got everything hardcore “A Song of Ice and Fire” fans would want. There’s political intrigue, deception at every turn, heartbreaking deaths and genuinely surprising plot twists. Okay, so maybe those are just the things we’re used to from the “Thrones” TV series on HBO, or from the horrors that author George R.R. Martin force feeds us in his ongoing book series, but at least the those behind the game stayed right to those “Game of Thrones” traits.

MTV News got a chance to play the RPG and chose that it’s something that anyone who considers themselves a fan of “Game of Thrones” — be it the book series, the TV show or both — should try out. Check out our five reasons you should be intrigued after the jump.

You Can Visit Familiar Faces
While the plot of the “Game of Thrones” RPG is conveniently crafted so that you avoid life in the same place at the same time as many of the characters we’ve come to like from the “Game of Thrones” novel and TV series (as in you won’t see Jon Snow at the Wall or Ned Stark at King’s Landing), there are a few familiar characters you’ll cross paths with. Cersei Lannister, Jeor Mormont and Lord Varys all pop up at one point or another, and are not to be trifled with. The those behind the game even got the actors in the HBO series to lend their likenesses and voices to their characters (with the exception of Cersei, who’s voiced by a sound-alike). And keep an eye out for Maester Martin, a certain gentleman who has been working on the sixth installment of his history of the Seven Kingdoms, a tome that is allegedly due out next year (though he apparently says this every year).

You’ll Learn More About The Lore
There’s no guarantee that the tale life told in the “Game of Thrones” RPG will ever impact the main plot in “A Song of Ice and Fire,” but at least it does give us some better insight into what happened in the saga’s history. Both of the game’s main characters, Mors and Alester, were involved in Robert Baratheon’s rebellion and both had their lives directly impacted by refusing Tywin Lannister’s order to kill Rhaegar Targaryen’s wife, Elia, and two children, Rhaenys and Aegon. Though there’s nothing in here that we don’t already know, it is fascinating to meet characters that were directly involved in an vital event that we’ve only heard tales about.

It’s A Game Made For Book Fans
As such, this is a game made for fans of George R.R. Martin’s books. Sure, newcomers or people who have only watched the HBO series will find plenty to delight in, but many of the best moments in the game will only make sense to those who have read “A Song of Ice and Fire.” Book fans will geek out over seeing Alester use R’hlorr’s Last Kiss, warging into Mors’ hound, meeting a Brotherhood conspiring to place a Targaryen back on the throne and having your two main characters really finally really team up instead of nearly crossing paths for five freaking books (damn you, GRRM).

You Participate In The Tale
Okay, so you might not really be able to exchange the tides of “A Song of Ice and Fire” in the “Game of Thrones” RPG, but at least you’ll be able to participate in it. After years of reading and now watching, it’s nice to at least pretend that you can prevent terrible, appalling things from happening to your favorite characters. You can’t, of course, but at least there’s the pretense that you can. The RPG’s battle system stays right to the fighting style in the book (don’t expect to be able to use any magical abilities until around the time Daenerys Targaryen’s dragons are born), and it’s just challenging enough to keep avid gamers interested.

It Was Made With Like
Cyanide is a small studio, and if they hadn’t been petitioning Martin to make this game for years, the “Game of Thrones” RPG would have probably have been made by a larger one. The game’s hardcore western RPG style might disaffect some, but it’s clear that the those at Cyanide are diehard “Game of Thrones” fans and that they wanted to make the best game possible that would do justice to Martin’s tale. And they succeeded. The “Game of Thrones” RPG doesn’t do anything pioneering or introduce anything new to gaming, but it is a fantastic way for fans to delve into the world of the Seven Kingdoms and feel like they’re more a part of it. The “Game of Thrones” RPG is right to the series in every way a game could possibly be, and because of that it was a joy to play.
